The LTF reading group was not what I expected — in a good way. I went in thinking it would be a lecture with slides. Instead it was six sessions where I actually had to think. The pre-reading helped a lot; by the time we sat down together I already had questions rather than just confusion. I left with a much clearer sense of how to evaluate whether an LTF is worth the commitment for my specific tax situation. My advisor noticed the difference immediately.

I booked the cashflow review because my wife and I were having the same circular conversation about whether to pay off the mortgage early or keep directing money into savings. After two sessions I understood why we kept going in circles — we had never put the full picture on one page. The balance sheet they produced was simple, but seeing everything in one place changed the conversation entirely. I would have liked a third session, honestly, but the summary document covered a lot of what I would have asked.

I attended the Thai markets weekend workshop with considerable scepticism. I had sat through two bank seminars in the previous year and both had ended with a product pitch I did not want. This was different in every respect. The data they used went back decades and the facilitator was openly uninterested in telling us what to buy. The follow-up call a month later was the part I appreciated most — by then I had spoken with my advisor and had actual questions rather than vague anxieties.

You might think a retired bank manager would already know all this. I thought the same. But LTFs in a personal tax context are quite different from the institutional perspective I worked with for thirty years. The reading group format suited me well — I could read at my own pace beforehand and then use the sessions for the questions that came out of that reading. Small group meant we covered things I doubt would come up in a larger room.

The cashflow review was something I had been putting off for about two years. I knew roughly what the picture looked like but kept avoiding drawing it out clearly. The sessions at Anan Capital gave me a reason to be honest about all of it — the family support I send each month, the car loan I took on last year, the savings rate that has been falling. The educator was calm and practical about all of it. The written summary sits on my desk now.

I sent three colleagues from my department after I finished the markets workshop. The printed reference packet alone is worth the fee — it is something you actually refer back to, not a course booklet you file away. The historical data on the SET put recent market movements in a perspective I had been missing entirely. I feel I understand now what questions to ask my advisor rather than simply nodding along.

From circular conversation to a clear decision

Cashflow Review · Couple in their late forties · Nonthaburi

The Situation

A couple with a remaining mortgage, two car loans, and monthly family support transfers had been debating whether to redirect discretionary income toward early mortgage repayment or toward a new LTF contribution. Both options felt plausible and neither felt conclusive.

How It Went

The cashflow review mapped the full household picture for the first time. Seeing the mortgage interest rate alongside the LTF tax saving made the comparison concrete rather than theoretical. The second session explored three scenarios with different timelines and showed clearly which produced more flexibility over a seven-year horizon.

Outcome

Within two months of the review the couple had begun LTF contributions for the first time and reduced one car loan ahead of schedule. The written summary provided a reference point when they discussed the plan with their bank.

"The piece of paper with all of it on one page was what we had needed for two years."

Building a frame of reference for the SET

Markets Weekend Workshop · Professional in her early fifties · Bangkok

The Situation

A senior administrator approaching fifty-five had a mid-sized lump sum available and had heard conflicting advice about equity investing from three different sources. Each source had its own product to recommend. She wanted to understand what she was looking at before speaking with any of them again.

How It Went

The weekend workshop provided the SET context she needed — historical performance across multiple cycles, the structure of the SET50, and how regional markets in ASEAN relate to each other over time. The facilitator spent time on time horizon: what a ten-year view looks like versus a three-year one for someone at her stage of working life.

Outcome

The follow-up call one month later was used to discuss questions that arose from her subsequent advisor meeting. She reported that her advisor had commented positively on how specific and well-framed her questions were. A portion of the lump sum was invested on a timeline she understood and could explain.

"I finally understood what I was looking at rather than just what I was being told."
